 The Program Mission

Converse County CSBG's goal is to improve self-sufficiency on the part of clients and assist them to improve their financial situation. Our eligibility is based on household size, household income, and being a county resident for at least 30 days.  The goal of the program is self-sufficiency, meaning to improve the individual's ability to problem solve, identify resources, identify needs, locate/access those resources, and meet needs independently.  To receive assistance, we assess the person's ability to budget money.  If that person scores less than 80% on the pretest, they have to complete a budgeting course or educational course for ongoing eligibility and receipt of aid.

The request for outside funding allows this program to provide case management, support, and aid to those families who are outside of the federal guideline.  The federal flows through funds have income criteria of 125% of the federal poverty level (FPL).  The outside funds awarded are set at or above the 200%  FPL.  The program can provide aid to those in need yet who are above the federal cap.  The local funds have allowed aid to families where there is no other or little assistance available to them.

Our support in training programs helps to build stronger single parents individuals and their brains to gain new skills to assist in navigating these challenging times. Mindfulness simply means directing attention in a purposeful manner. Our goal is self-sufficiency and to keep families, especially children out of poverty. A major service is case management for clients.  Our program helps them learn to budget and refers clients to additional services or agencies and other partners and organizations for additional resources that may be outside our funding abilities.   In that capacity, this program has been able to leverage thousands of additional funds. Without local funds available we would not be able to leverage the amount of outside assistance that we have been able to arrange.

We offer:

Emergency needs: Food, Transportation, Medical, permanent housing, employment needs.

Educational Needs: Through partnerships, we offer educational and personal development grants to build stronger single parents, individuals, and their brains to gain new skills to assist in navigating these challenging times. Mindfulness simply means directing attention in a purposeful manner.

We aim to help them with Life skills and Soft skills. Our goal in developing these skills is to help them to become more self-sufficient. Our vision is to develop better mental health, healthy individuals, families, and citizens in Converse County.    Our Program serves all qualified Converse County residents who need additional assistance beyond their emergency needs.  Who are willing to learn and put in the work to meet their needs.

We hope you will help us on our journey to help low-income families in our area regain and retrain. Without valuable partners like you and your assistance, our program will not be able to meet even half of our family’s needs.
